Wild Borocera Silk, Black Mud
This Wild Borocera Silk, spun on drop spindles and hand dyed n the Central Highlands of Madagascar will delightfully fill your craving for a luxurious, hand-spun, "thick and thin" fiber.
This gorgeous yarn is imported into Rwanda from Madagascar in a single ply, before the women of Handspun Hope ply it and put it into hanks.
The introduction of this raw silk fiber comes as we expand our partnership with the Malagasy women of Voajanahary Cooperative, from whom we have been purchasing gorgeous finished handwoven scarves since 2011.
The purchase of this yarn sustainably supports the cooperative to earn a living wage and protect their environment. The women gather the silk cocoons before spinning it into the sing ply. While harvesting, new Malagasy government initiatives are teaching low-impact farming, which both help save the Madagascar forests and incentive local people to protect their trees.
Our one-of-a-kind Wild Borocera Silk yarn is available in two weights. The yardages listed below are the minimum lengths.

Due to the characteristics of natural silk fiber, please note the following as you prepare for your project:
- Actual color may vary between skeins. Because of this, we recommend alternating skeins.
- You may noticed imperfections, including vegetable matter (VM) and slubs. Our suggestion is that you simply pick out the VM as you encounter it.
- The hand-spun quality of this yarn varies thick and thin. We always recommend creating your own swatch to determine the best gauge and tools. Each experience will vary.
Handspun Hope is a sustainable artisan brand committed to ethically sourced materials and that have minimal impact on the environment.
